Underwater City
Many years ago, radiation and devastation brought on by their own wars had forced majority of the population of Planet Banimon to seek new life under the sea. They formed the Underwater City, and have continued to live in it ever since, disconnected from events on the surface, self-sufficient in every way. They had known about the Banigoth Horde as a barbarian tribe from the far reaches of the inhospitable East, dangerous but contained. For an average citizen of Underwater City it would be difficult to believe that these barbarians have so rapidly evolved into a Galactic Empire, but their complete isolation had spared them this knowledge. Simply assuming that radiation had by now wiped out the remaining life forms on the surface, they didn’t lose any more sleep over what they left behind.
Their progress continued. Hard working and focused, the Underwater City populace has developed technology to allow them to truly become a sea-based civilization. Their food, clothing and even building materials all either come directly from the sea, or are excavated from underwater mines. Chastised by their experience, they shunned the weapons of war, but proved quite ingenious in devising new vehicles and tools for further exploring depths of the ocean. Many of the sea creatures, too have been co-opted by them and used in myriad ways. Their political system is complex and riddled with factionalism that often paralyzes the Underwater Senate, and since their political parties are also their sports teams, derby games and elections are equally likely to result in riots. Those among them unable to fit into the society they quickly proclaim insane and ship off to the Isle of the Ill to be generally forgotten there.
In what is now considered the official start of Interplanetary Revolution, El General and other inmates staged an uprising and took over Isle of the Ill. Their quest to spread the fires of the Revolution subsequently took them all the way to distant Havvacor and back, but even this was unknown in the Underwater City, since there had been no new deportees to the Isle of the Ill for over a decade. Truly, nothing exemplifies the spirit of Underwater City as their favorite saying: “Not knowing is half of not having to fight a battle”. In short, here is a slightly imperfect, but highly functioning, self-sufficient civilization making the most of the second chance it was given.
