Future Plans
Over a year since the last update (sorry for the silence!), few people have asked what’s next for Planet Banimon, and the toy line in particular. As many of you know, I’ve started work on another project a while back that has been consuming most of my attention (more on that in a future post), and driving my limited focus and productivity away from finishing the Banimon series.
That said, over the years a lot of work has gone into Banimon, and with the sixth (and last) book in the series being about 3/4 done we owe it both to the fans and the characters themselves to finish this one properly – “the end is important in all things”. This means that we’re probably looking at the end of 2019 or early 2020 for releasing it, and there is also a possibility of the entire series being re-issued and re-packaged for the audience overseas. Stay tuned on that one.
There will be one more production release (most likely around Halloween) before the current PVC molds are retired, and we will also look at what’s left of the stock from previous releases to try and bring it to you in a slightly re-imagined format, but there are no plans for further large scale investments into the toyline or multiple new colorways. The Glyos universe has been great for us, but it has also gotten pretty saturated both in terms of number of offerings and their frequency, so it makes no financial sense to continue under the same model, as it would essentially just commoditize what was always imagined as an art toy produced in deliberately limited runs. To this day, some of the previous Banimon releases continue to be among the most hard to find items in the Glyos universe precisely because of the relatively low production counts.
So…. With immense gratitude, respect and support to Onell Design and all the individual creators who continue to fight the good fight, the proverbial end is near. The website and the store will continue to be maintained, and there might still be some mini-releases of customs in the future, but barring some unforeseen circumstances, we’re one comic and one production release away from closing this book. It’s been fun. Many MANY thanks to everyone who has supported this project both in words and deeds, I save you for last because you matter the most and made the wild, awesome journey possible.
